Biometric passport

The passport of a citizen of Turkmenistan with biometric data is a document that grants the citizen of Turkmenistan with the right to leave and enter Turkmenistan and certifies his/her identity in foreign countries.
The passport is the property of Turkmenistan and is valid for travel to all countries of the world. The holder of the passport is under the protection of Turkmenistan.
In case of loss of a biometric passport by the citizen of Turkmenistan, the document granting the right to enter Turkmenistan is a certificate of return to Turkmenistan issued by diplomatic missions or consular offices of Turkmenistan in foreign countries.
Citizens of Turkmenistan apply to the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan to obtain (change) a passport.
Passport with biometric data is processed within one month from the date of application.
The passport is replaced in the following cases:
  • When its validity period expires;
  • When there are changes in personal information;
  • When an inaccuracy is detected in the records;
  • When unsuitable for use;
  • When no blank pages for visas and notes are left;
  • When no blank pages for visas and notes are left;
when the citizen’s fingerprints and facial features change due to health conditions or other circumstances. Citizens of Turkmenistan who have let their passport be intentionally damaged or lost due to negligence are held liable in accordance with the legislation of Turkmenistan (leads to warning or imposition of a fine of up to four basic units).
Operating procedure

In accordance with the Labor legislation of Turkmenistan, applications of citizens for obtaining a biometric passport are accepted from 09:00 to 18:00 from Monday to Friday, and from 09:00 to 13:00 on Saturday, except for holidays and Sundays.
